This section will be updated from time to time to show the planning
and construction phases of recently completed and in-progress work. Hoss
begins each piece with a sketch or drawing; then a sample is usually made
to test a potential process, material, or fabrication method. Most sculptures
are created using steel or bronze sheet formed without heat under a hydraulic
press. Often a single form is constructed of several smaller pieces that are
meticulously welded or riveted together. For large work, a small scale model
is made and then used as a guide for producing the final version. Once a form
is completed, a multi-step finishing process brings color and richness to
its surface.
